Run in the slush. Why not?

Comments

Slush is better than ice!!! And oh that 4 miles in rep for you half makes me laugh. I just did 4 miles in prep...and thats for a Half thats about 3 weeks away. Blame it on the flu that I went form 9 mi long runto a meager 4...but will try to hit it tomorro...
Slush is one of the worst running surfaces, but even worse is frozen slush! Lumpy ice is like running on large rocks and after it snow a bit, you can't see where the ice-rocks are. Smart plan to get your run in when you did - it's the same reason I ran yesterday, too. Do you have an old pair of treads you can convert in to screw shoes? If nothing else it's a fun experiment, and screw shoes work better on ice than they do in slush.
Neither slush nor frozen slush have any impact on me watching television, which is my alternative to running in 30 degree temperatures.
Ah, wisdom. So that's what I've been lacking. Thank you for finally pouring some cold water on me.
The flu? Oh hell, I'm amazed you're running at all. I got the full-blown flu last spring and didn't run at all, or barely even leave the house, for two weeks solid. It is such a deal-breaker; good on ya for even trying to get out there!
Thanks mshobe...That makes me feel better. It was definitely a killer...I went to work, but I have no idea how. But now I've got this little half Marathon thing...so I gotta keep pushing it and hoping I can just comeplete it, forget any decent time.
I woke up this morning and it was 5 below in the far west suburbs. You made the right decision.
What do you think of the Indy Mini-Marathon? I've had a few friends run it but I guess they did it years ago.
The Mini-Mara is a GREAT time. It's as much about being in Indy with 35,000 others as it is about the run itself. Normally a somewhat placid downtown, for that weekend it's teeming with runners and their friends & families. The bars and restaurants are packed, and there's just a good buzz all around.

The course itself is pretty solid, but I've taken issue with its official length. The lap around the Brickyard is the acknowledged centerpiece of the show, and rightly so. If you have any connection to the race itself, it's easy to see how for some it's almost a religious experience to get on that perfect pavement.
